The street or mountain (mauka in Hawaiian) side of the building and the carport are shown from Aliʻi Drive facing the ocean (makai in Hawaiian).
The complex consists of two buildings, joined on the top (third) floor. Both the
south and north buildings contain three apartments, each on its own floor (there
are no common walls). Our unit is on the right (north) side on the first level.
The paddle tennis court is above the carport, which has a reserved parking spot for each
unit.
Parking is also usually available on the street.

This is a kayak's eye view of the front of the condo from the ocean. There is a
nice sandy beach just to the left of the seawall gate and tide pools just offshore.
To our left on the north is a private residence and to the south is another small
condominium complex.
Also to the left (north) is the Turtle Lagoon, an enclosed reef with a larger sandy beach & tide pools that is home to several Green Sea Turtles (honu).

The walkway up from the parking structure off Aliʻi Drive presents a breathtaking
view of the ocean through the breezeway. Lovely rhapis palms grace each side of
the walk, which is composed of hand-set lava rocks. Our unit is just to the right,
on the first floor. The entrance is on the ground level, so you don't have to navigate
a staircase when hauling in those groceries or cherished souvenirs of your stay on
the Big Island.

The oversize pool is down one level at ocean level. Our lānai is the one on the left,
on the first level above the pool. Our unit is very accessible to both the pool
and the ocean. You can reach the pool from the left staircase outside our back door,
or through the front door to the breezeway and then down the center stairwell.
There is a large entertainment area surrounding the pool with a sink and counters, as well as tables and
chairs. A convenient shower and restroom are located in the pool area, to the right
of the center stairwell on the south side.

The pool area is on the same level as the ocean. The gate to the beach is at the
far end of the seawall to the left (north) in this photo. Chaise lounges are also available for sunbathing.
An outdoor shower was recently installed (2012) so you can wash the beach sand off your feet before entering the pool or the building.

Our unit is on the north side of the building. Outside our windows, the area is
landscaped with lovely tropical ginger, hibiscus and other tropical plants. The stairs
lead out from our back door and right down to the pool area, providing easy access
to the beach and pool. This view is from the carport looking toward the ocean.
On the lot immediately north of Hale Pōhaku are two vintage Hawaiian private homes with lots of
native plants and trees, built back in the 1940's. This is the view you see from our bedrooms and is a view of lovely old Hawaiʻi.
